mom-fry-and-bill-fry-july-2008-001.jpg

Dave and I were privileged to have been able to sit down with “Mom” and Bill Fry. They came over and filled us in on some more of the history of Fry Lake! We enjoyed hearing the stories of how Mr. Fry purchased the property and the reality of seeing it come to be the local swimming area. Bill told us the story of how he helped put the 30 ft. diving board together, but then once it was done, he never did jump off it. Sounds smart to me!!! Mom Fry told us how she used to work in the concession stand and would make lots and lots of sno-cones. We enjoyed meeting and getting to know both of them! Thanks you guys for taking the time to come over and fill us in on this piece of property. We were able to get a few pictures of them. Norma - you skated on the pictures! You’ll have to come back over so we can get a picture of you at Fry Lake! Oneita, we are looking forward to meeting you in September!

Learning Fry Lake’s History!

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Dave and I really enjoyed being able to sit down and talk to Norma Gillespie about Fry Lake. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fry who used to own this place. Norma gave us some of the history and brought some pictures and newspaper articles that she is allowing us to copy. We are hoping to talk to one of her brothers that lives around here and also to her mom. We will update the history of this place on our history page as we get details. Thanks Norma for taking time out to share about Fry Lake with us. We really enjoyed meeting you and learning more about Fry Lake!!!dustins-pictures-671.jpg

Does Divorce Damage Children?

Can divorce be a good thing

Divorce affects about one million children each year in the United States. An old saying is that parents should stay together for the kids, even if the parents are not happy.

Sixty-one percent of Oklahomans think that parents who don’t get along should divorce. Thirty percent think that couples who are not in love anymore should divorce.

Research has found when parents hurt each other through abuse or frequent arguing, a divorce can be better for the kids. But most marriages that end in divorce are not these high-conflict marriages.

Many U.S. divorces happen when couples feel they are not in love or are unhappy together. These couples believe they would be happier apart. Many parents do not want to model an unhappy marriage for their kids, so they choose divorce. However, the kids may not see the marriage as unhappy. They often are surprised by the divorce and do not understand why it happened.

Many couples experience tough times, but are able to turn their relationship around and find happiness together down the road.

An unexpected divorce can hurt kids in many ways:

• Acting out

• Teen pregnancy

• Health problems

• Low self-esteem

• Mental health problems as an adult

• Getting in trouble with the law

• Dropping out of school

• Low income

Texas Lawmaker Proposes Tougher Divorce Laws

Texas couples seeking a divorce would be required to either wait two years or take a class designed to save their marriage, under legislation proposed by state Rep. Warren Chisum, a Republican. It currently takes 60 days to finalize a divorce in Texas.

Chisum, who has been married for 50 years, attempted to pass similar legislation in 2007, but it was defeated in committee.

Glenn Stanton, director of family studies at Focus on the Family, applauded Chisum for his perseverance.

“Unfortunately, divorce is far easier in this nation than it should be,” he said. “So, asking couples to think more carefully about their relationship, to reflect on the process of divorce, to reflect on the incredible fallout that will come from that — not just for the children, but for husbands and wives — is a very serious issue and worth considering.”

Last year, Chisum authored a law that waves the $60 marriage license fee for couples who take an 8-hour premarital class.

“We’re going to attack it at both ends — marriage and divorce — in an effort to keep families together,” Chisum told the Austin American-Statesman. “If this just saves one marriage, it’ll be fine with me.”

“Fireproof”

fireproof.jpg

Dave and I were privileged to have been able to see an early viewing of the movie “Fireproof”. The movie is set to come out in theaters September 26, 2008. It is a movie about a couple going through struggles in their marriage and how they overcome them. It is put out by the same church that made the movie “Facing the Giants”. It is an excellent movie and we recommend that everyone go to see it. If at all possible, go opening weekend. Get a group of friends together and go see the movie and do dinner or dessert! It will be an enjoyable evening. We would love to see more quality movies in the theaters and in the movie business it is based on how well the movie did the first few days it comes out. You can watch the movie trailer at fireproofmymarriage.com. Tell all your friends about the movie and promote the movie at your church. It is well worth seeing!

INSTALLING A HUSBAND

INSTALLING A HUSBAND

Dear Tech support,
Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slow down in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5 and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0 and Golf 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. I’ve tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail. What can I do?

Signed,

Desperate.

Reply;
First keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system. Please enter command: ithoughtyoulovedme.html and try to download Tears 6.2 and don’t forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. But remember, overuse of the above application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5. Conversation 8.0 may work better if you are willing to add ESPN 4.5 along with it. Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother- In-Law 1.0 (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources.) Also do not attempt to reinstall Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. Many have found it helpful to run Marriage Retreat 6.2. You need to be careful if you do, as this may require you to also run Cooking 3.0 and Hot Lingerie 7.7.

Good Luck,

Tech Support

Blackberries are ripe at Fry Lake

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

We have been picking blackberries most evenings. Mary has preserved 3 batches of blackberry jam. If you are thinking of visiting and like berry-picking now would be a great time! Our neighbor Nadine has been our berry-picking guide. We have picked on both Fry Lake and Almosta Farm which is the farm Just to the west that is owned by Spider and Nadine.
